recognition. The first option is "+ Divide chars" under the title "Recog-
nize". It selects whether several connected characters shall be divided or
not. If you have an original that does not have any connected chars at
all, you should switch this off. This will improve the certainty of recog-
nition a little bit. 3.0
- The second parameter is "+ Remove frames". Normally HANDY-READER auto-
matically removes large graphics like frames around text passages. If you
do not have any of this kind at all you can switch this option off. In
cases of different font sizes or many connected characters you will get
better results when switching it off. 3.0
- At the moment the last new menu item is "+ Exact" under the title "Recog-
nize". You can use it to select two different ways of recognition: 'Draft'
and 'Exact'. The font data for these two degrees of exactness is not
compatible. Draft is equivalent to what HANDY-READER 2.0 worked with.
With Exact you will get a much higher reliability but you pay for it by
gettuing font size dependent (meaning that you need new font data for each
size), slower and the maximum size of the database is smaller (about 1600
compared to 2800 entries). When loading a font data file exactness will be
changed properly if necessary. Always when you change the exactness any
data still in memory has to be cleared. If this happens, HANDY-READER 3.0 will ask the user whether to proceed or not. We have already provided you
with some fonts for Exact. They are Courier, Prestige, Pica, LetterGothic
in '12pt.'. You should start off using them in order to create you own
data bases. Only if you do so you will ever get more than 99% of your text
translated correctly.
MERGE and LISTER have of course been adapted, too. As the Draft- and Exact-
Files are not compatible MERGE will not work with font data files of
different type. LISTER will also tell you the type of your font data file
beside all the other information it provides you with. 3.0
- Handy-Reader now differenciates much better between lines. 3.0
- The maximum scanlength is saver, so memory should'nt get rare so fast. 3.0
- Starting Handy-Reader and loading a datafile has become more easy because
Handy-Reader now also searches the directory DATA. The same applies to
MERGE and LISTER as well. Only the destination name of MERGE must always be
given complete including the path name. 3.0
